In the context of persisting economic problems a vast majority of Nepalese are still involved in the informal sector struggling to make ends meet without access to social security, quality education, and health facilities. Together with political decision makers, experts from ministries, trade unions, academia, and non-governmental organizations FES strives to raise new ideas on Nepal’s economic and social progress and to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Women’s empowerment as a means to enhance social justice, promotion of decent work as well as the implementation of social and economic rights enshrined in the constitution of Nepal are of great importance in this perspective.

FES is a long-standing partner of the trade union movement in Nepal and is engaged in improving workers' rights. Our objective is to make trade unions fit for the challenges posed by the changing global economic order through trainings and workshops on workers' rights, labor legislation, and also social security on a regional and international level.
